Staff and students from the European Centre for Environment Human Health and the Blue Gym took part in the Cornwall Beach Games at Tolcarne Beach in Newquay last week.
The event is part of the NHS workplace health programme and is about getting staff together from a variety of workplaces to enjoy games and activities on the beach. The event aims at boosting morale, health and wellbeing.
The Games were a real success, with over 20 workplace teams taking part, and it’s no surprise being on the beach was such a hit. Research from the European Centre and Blue Gym teams has found that exercising in the natural environment has been shown to have a more positive effect on our mental health than exercising indoors, and visits to coastal environments in particular have been found to be most beneficial.
