Dry skin most often occurs on the shins, hands and sides of the abdomen. It is more common during the winter months, when humidity is low. The skin loses moisture and may crack and peel, or become irritated and inflamed. Treatment is important because extensively dry skin can lead to dermatitis, a more severe inflammation of the skin. If you are suffering from dry skin you will generally notice that it is not prone to one particular area of the body. It can appear on the face, legs, arms, scalp and feet. It is quite common to occur more in the winter time due to the lack of humidity, and this causes the skin to lose its moisture content.

Dry skin however can be controlled successfully with a good skin care routine and other lifestyle changes.

One thing that you should do is to avoid the use of tap water when washing your skin. Simply because tap water does contain certain elements such as chlorine and fluoride as well as other countless chemicals. Applying these to your face is not going to make it any better. So your solution is to either use bottle water or to filter the water from any chemicals.

Never use hot water as this makes matters worse, and when drying your skin do not be harsh. Simply pat dry your face and nothing more. Every now and then use a face mask to help remove any deep impurities. After you have rinsed away the face mask, you should then apply a moisturiser and this is best done when your skin is damp.
